Steps Choreography/Performance Classes

Throughout the year, Steps Dance Studio offers performance classes in Salsa (on 1 and on 2), Cha Cha, Bachata, Brazilian Samba, Casino Rueda, Latin Hustle as well as Ladies' Only or Men's Only Styling Performance Classes.

These performance classes take place once a week but require a longer time commitment than our regular 8 week syllabus classes. Most performance classes run for 12-20 weeks. As well, the students in the performance classes often meet at the studio to practice outside of their regularly scheduled performance class timeslot.

Most performance classes are geared to intermediate or advanced students. Please see the prerequisites for the performance class you are considering.

BACHATA PERFORMANCE CLASS

Bachata is a seductive and flirtatious dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. This performance class will incorporate more advanced turns, variations and Bachata footwork and will add style and flavour to your dancing. Body movement drills will help you add that sexiness that is needed to make this dance look effortless.

Dates: Monday November 1 - February 28
Time: 9:00pm-10:00pm
Instructors: Jennifer Aucoin & Angelo De Torres
Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: Completed at least one Bachata course at Steps, or equivalent (ie. some knowledge and experience with Bachata dancing is a must)
Price: $285 (16 weeks, can pay in two installments)
Performance Date: Toronto Bachata Festival, Acrobat Lounge & Steps Dance Studio; dates to be confirmed

BRAZILIAN SAMBA PERFORMANCE CLASS

In this class, Soraya will teach you a Brazilian Samba choreography, one of the most sensual dances in the world. You will improve your rhythm, posture, strength and grace. Perfect your sexy moves, fast footwork and very sensual hip shakes, dance to the music of Carnival and perform at one of the Steps Parties.

Dates: Wednesday April 21 - Wednesday June 30

Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: has completed a Brazilian Samba course (at Steps or equivalent)
Price: $185 (11 weeks)
Performance Date: Sunday, July 18th Salsa on St. Clair after-party at Steps Dance Studio

LADIES STYLING PERFORMANCE CLASS

In this class, Amanda will teach you a Ladies only shine choreography, with sexy and elegant salsa styling. You will learn how to incorporate body movements into your Salsa steps such as head and shoulder rolls, hairbrushes, threading, hip shakes & tango hooks, all in a warm, encouraging, ladies' only environment. You will improve your rhythm, posture, strength and grace. Increase your confidence on and off the dancefloor! Perform at one of the Steps Parties.

Dates: Tuesday Sept. 7 - Dec. 14
Time: 8:00pm-9:00pm

Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: has completed Salsa Beginner 3 (or equivalent)
Price: $250 (15 weeks, can be paid in two installments)
Performance Date: Sunday, December 5th at the Steps Christmas Ball

SALSA PERFORMANCE CLASS

Dates: Monday May 3 - Monday October 4
Time: 9:00pm-10:00pm
Instructors: Jennifer Aucoin & Clifton Stennett
Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Prerequisite: Must be at an intermediate or advanced level. Minimum Intermediate 2 (or equivalent)
Price: $340 (19 weeks)
Performance Date: Steps studio party in September (date TBA); Canada Salsa Congress Opening Night Gala, Thursday, October 7th at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel

LATIN HUSTLE PERFORMANCE CLASS

Dates: Wednesday July 7 - Wednesday December 8
Time: 8:00pm-9:00pm
Instructors: Jennifer Aucoin & Angelo De Torres
Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Prerequisite: Must be at an intermediate or advanced level in Latin Hustle.
Price: $350 (20 weeks) - can pay in two installments (one in July and one in September)
Performance Date: Steps Christmas party December 5th; Acrobat Lounge (date TBC)

Policies:

Please note that pre-registration is necessary for the Choreography/Performance classes so that we can determine if there are an equal number of men and women.
Payment for performance classes lasting longer than 12 weeks can be made in two installments. First installment due before or on the first day of the course, 2nd installment due half way through the course.
Drop-ins are not permitted in the Choreography/Performance classes.
We ask that everyone who registers, commits to the full course as well as possible additional free practice sessions with the group.
Costumes will be paid for by the students (students will have input on what they wear and on how much they want to pay for the costumes).
If a student misses a choreography/performance class, we ask that they meet with student(s) from the class to learn what was missed before the next scheduled class or that they book a private with the instructor.
